Always place the Railgun II where you used to place the ball; so the ball will be an inch and a half forward of normal.(almost even with your front foot big toe.) Swing through the ball and you will make more putts than you ever dreamed you could.
Set your putter square to the target line so the ball is immediately in front of the center barrel of the Railgun II putter.
Observe your putting buddies on the Green. Are their putts taking a jump before they start rolling forward end over end? You will not get that jump, when you set up properly, and use a zero loft Railgun II putter.
On putts of less than 3 feet, minimize your backstroke to less than 1 inch and make your motion a forward push to the cup.
Have you heard the suggestion in putting "Chase the rabbit all the way to the hole?" On every putt, follow your putter head forward until you are pointing to the end of the target line (the hole, on straight putts).
Some golfers like to putt right handed for long putts but left handed for short ones. The Railgun II allows you to do that with one club.
- With a Railgun II putter, try putting left handed for putts that break to the right and right handed for putts that break to the left. You may find that you hole more puts because the putter follows the natural arc motion.
Use your Railgun II putter as a rescue club when you find yourself against an obstruction, and you need to swing the other way.
Select the right length of putter. Did you know that the average length of putter used by the pros, regardless of their height is 33 ½ inches? Select a putter length that puts your eyes just over the putter head. You want to be as low and close to the action as possible.
The best way to improve your putting is to simplify the stroke and reduce hand motion using the gate motion. Hold the putter with the palm of your left hand and the face of the putter perpendicular to your putting line. Your forearm and the shaft should be in the same plane. Your left thumb should be resting on the top (front) of the grip. Put your right hand on the putter with the right thumb also resting on top (front) of the grip. Put both elbows against your ribs holding the putter shaft parallel to the ground. Now bend down from your torso and flex your knees until the putter rests on the putting surface. You are now ready to execute a putt where your shoulder pivot around your neck is the only motion that causes the ball to move forward to the hole.
For best results, the ball should be under your left eye (eye closest to the hole). This will assure the club has passed its apex before it strikes the ball thereby imparting an upward stroke creating a forward roll on the ball.
Above all, remember that confidence comes from preparation. With over 40% of your strokes around the putting green, you should prepare by spending at least 15 minutes putting before starting a round of golf.
Putting exercises may include the old north, south, east west drill, where you place 4 balls in each of the 4 directions at 3 feet from the hole; the Ladder drill where you place a ball 2 feet from the hole, 3 feet from the hole, 4 feet from the hole, etc. And finally you may try achieving distance control by putting toward the edge of the putting green to get as close to it without being too short or too long. Happy putting.
